Department of Social Work

The Master of Social Work (MSW) is a Post graduate-level professional degree that prepares individuals for advanced practice in the field of social work. It equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to support individuals, families, and communities through a variety of social, emotional, and systemic challenges. The MSW discipline encompasses both clinical and macro-level work. Clinical social work focuses on mental health counseling, therapy, and emotional support, allowing practitioners to work in hospitals, private practices, or mental health clinics. On the other hand, macro social work emphasizes policy development, advocacy, and organizational leadership, often involving roles in government agencies, nonprofits, and community-based organizations.

MSW programs typically cover core areas such as human behavior, social work ethics, clinical assessment, research methods, and social policy. A significant component of the program is the field practicum, which provides hands-on experience in real-world social work settings. Students may choose to specialize in areas like school social work, medical social work, child and family services, or substance abuse counseling. The MSW is not only a gateway to meaningful, people-centered careers but also a platform for driving social change and promoting equity and justice in diverse communities.
